Lebanon
Lots of good news today. The Supreme Court strikes down executions of minors (it's about time). And the Syrians beating a hasty retreat from Lebanon -- or saying they will (and secretly hoping this all blows over and the world forgets).
We won't forget. This is beginning to feel like 1989 all over again.
Yet my newspaper isn't even taking this story outside. Why not? Not only is it big news, not only is it GREAT news, it's got by far the best art of anything on the wire today:
How can you resist that? How can you not take that outside? When it doesn't fit into the world-view you've outlined on your editorial pages day after day after day (we run Maureen Dowd, Molly Ivins, Paul Krugman, the whole NYT package), I guess you can't comprehend what you're seeing.
