Council Winners

[posted by Callimachus]

Mega-Catch-Up edition.

Here are the winners from the week of May 4.

First place within the council went to Cornelia, Mother of the Gracchi at Bookworm Room, which was just a good, solid blog post. It weaves a personal story into a historical context and relates it to a current event or controversy. It's the nuts and bolts of how to do this medium, and it's refreshing to see it done.

Votes also went to my After Iraq post; Giuliani on Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Terrorism by Joshuapundit; Changing Times Demand Telling the Truth in Wartime by Right Wing Nut House, Voter Fraud? Not a big deal! by The Colossus of Rhodey; and "And Why the Sea Is Boiling Hot, and Whether Pigs Have Wings" by Big Lizards.

I especially liked the RWNH post, which dealt with the Tillman/Lynch hearing, and came out pretty close to what I feel about the whole thing. Sample:

The point that propaganda doesn’t work anymore – not in the current atmosphere of press scrutiny and suspicion – seems to be lost on the Pentagon officials who tried to pump up the circumstances surrounding the death of Pat Tillman and rescue of Jessica Lynch. They are living in the past if they believe they can get away with it. And the hell of it is, it besmirches the life and yes, legend of Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch; two Americans who were simply answering the call to serve and fulfilled their obligations with a startling devotion to duty and their country.

Outside the council, the winner was COIN: The Gravity Well by Blackfive, which does a good job of making the wonky side of counterinsurgency (COIN) comprehensible.

Votes also went to God Called by Laurie Kendrick; Mitt and Osama by Dean Barnett at Hugh Hewitt's site; and my nominee,
A Failure In Generalship at Armed Forces Journal, which, to be fair, wasn't really a blog post at all, but it inspired quite a few of them.

Here are the winners from the week of May 11.

First place within the council went to Does America Elect Defeatists? by Big Lizards.

Votes also went to "The Greatest Scientific Scandal of Our Time" at Cheat Seeking Missiles; Zawahiri Posts an Important New Video -- and Reveals al-Qaeda's Jihad Strategy by Joshuapundit; The Quietest Hero by Soccer Dad; I Know What You're Against, But What Are You For? by Bookworm Room; Authenticity, the West, and Islam at Eternity Road; and Suffering By Comparison at Right Wing Nut House.

Outside the council the winner was our buddy Michael J. Totten, for “Better a Thousand Israeli Invasions...”, in which he patiently and thoroughly explains the situation in the minds of Lebanese, which it seems Americans and Israelis have consistently misjudged.

Votes also went to Two Words at Cup of Love; It Takes Two Sides to End a War at Winds of Change; and "Truthers" Never Sleep at Ace of Spades HQ.
