Chicken Roost Alert

James Taranto explains and comments on the "Cornyn kerfluffle." The bigger story is in his piece, but the gist of it is a Republican Senator artfully dodged a Trent Lott moment when he took his foot out before it was all the way in his mouth. The topic was a posited connection between anger over liberal "judicial activism" and violence against judges.

Taranto writes:

It's true, as he said in his clarification, that there's no indication of political motives in the most recent acts of antijudge violence .... But there have been cases in which politically based anger over court actions has motivated violent crimes, and not always against judges.

You know, as someone who has spent 22 years in newspapers, yet who is a persistent critic of them, I wonder what kind of hell I'm invoking on myself and my peers.
