Time for Christmas

[Posted by reader_iam]

My oddball thought for the day:

Christmas would be better if it fell at a different time of the year, like June maybe, when school is out, and if it were not a National Holiday.

There's too much stuff going on at the end of the calendar year, in the work-a-day world alone. There are too many holidays about which we make too much of a big, collective, public deal between the end of October and the start of January. There is too large of a concentrated mass of people publicly celebrating, with too large of concentrated submasses too worried about how other people celebrate, or don't. There's too darn much to talk about, and too darn many people talking.

Short version: Christmas itself is wonderful (for those who think it is, anyway), but as for the Holiday Season? Bah, humbug.

(If this blog used tags, I'd file this one under "sometimes all the peripheral shit really gets to me.")
