Popularity Contest

George W. Bush has low popularity among his subjects. That means his presidency is a failure, you see. That means his ideas are the wrong ones and he should step down or be impeached.

Because we really need a leader whom the people like. That is called "democracy." A leader whose approval rating among the people he governs is, say, a whopping 70 percent or so. That means his ideas are the right ones and his leadership is a success.

Our president will meet such a leader this week in the state of Maine. Perhaps the poor sod could pick up a few tips for boosting his own popularity to Putin-like levels.
