Answering The Call

[Posted by reader_iam]

Amba alerts us to the current status of the Women's Protective Bill in Pakistan and the need for feminists, women's groups and others worldwide to offer support.

She links to Eteraz, who has been right on top of this issue, for important details.

From Amba:
It looked as if the mullahs had beaten it back by pressuring Musharraf (who's going to be on The Daily Show on September 26?!), but Musharraf is still trembling like a teeter-totter beween the two worlds, and this is the moment to put a lot of weight on his modern side.

From Eteraz:
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, sources tell me, that the BATTLE IS NOT IN PARLIAMENT ANYMORE - IT IS IN MUSHARRAF’S LIVING ROOM.

The reformists are going to get as many names and MORE IMPORTANTLY WOMEN’S RIGHTS GROUPS to sign off on this petition and run a full page ad with the above language when Musharraf returns home. They will be going door to door in Pakistan. They are risking their lives.

I'm really tired tonight and fighting off a headache, so I won't comment further, but I didn't want to let the day go by without highlighting this very important bill, which could improve the lives of millions of women, and offering my own support.

Please go read what Amba and Eteraz have to say.
