George Orwell.
More and more, I think most people, and by this I'm referring most specifically to literate and privileged people (a redundancy, or at least a loop, in this country, btw), don't get his insights, his wisdom, and his scope, at all. To be simplistic, if you missed the "self-serving, narrow-thinking" part of Orwell's criticism of elites (of all flavors), you might want to think again. Or if you think a party or political label has a single damn thing to do with it. Much less settles it.
