I Hate It When They're Right

Who's "They?" Anyone who posits a cynical rule of thumb for reading between the lines of my chosen profession. Like, "if the newspaper account of the crime doesn't list the race of the unidentified suspect, he's black." Too often, as I have seen, that's true. In a related vein, "if the news account of the politician doing something racist/sexist/generally immoral doesn't mention party affiliation prominently in the lede, he/she is a Democrat." Looks like that one holds true, too.
